Fear No More

A large painting of a monster with mouth open, sharp teeth and claws grasping in the night forest

Another guest post from the west coast this week! Our roving reporter (@hopemanbob) sent this painting along. The application is superb as getting a concept to work around a corner is very tricky. After a little research, it looks like the original had more at the bottom that’s been defaced (and hence cut from this shot). View the original from @vivacheman for the context — it really brings home the title.

Four Hearts

A series of four graffiti hearts in different color schemes each with line work inside

I was forced back into the city last week (which was weird), but naturally, I took the opportunity to capture some more art. This shot has two things I love — a good series and nice line work. Exploring different color scheme options live across the boarded up windows of a construction site is bold. And the line work falls somewhere between a science fiction alien language and the shapes of Arabic typography. From @7lineartstudio

Teeth

Spray paint graffiti blue cartoon face with large white buck teeth

I’ll always be a fan of cartoons, so this character caught my eye. I love the subtle Japanese hints to the artwork. It’s like a piece of deity fan art.

Love Letters

Spray paint graffiti collage of hearts and stylized lettering

Starting at the top of the gate with a somewhat pedestrian “love” stencil and polka dot banner, the eye travels down into a row of hearts through the chaotic layers of lettering and finally resting once again on the rough hewn hearts. It would seem the security lights in the top corners have not dispersed people from adding signatures on top of this piece, unfortunately muddling the original theme.

Here’s part of a larger mural and I’ll leave the description up to the artist (conveniently with a plaque!). I’m always in favor of more public art even if I find this piece a bit tame. And even if it comes with corporate sponsors. Bring on the color and chaos!
